Jacqueline Apel

Biography

Jacqueline Apel was born in Geneva Switzerland in 1968. Attracted by the Fine Arts since her childhood, Jacqueline began by studying music at the Conservatoire Populaire de Musique in Geneva, where she studied piano for 3 years, flute for 13 years and saxophone for 2 years. In the interim, her interest in the visual arts, especially painting, was growing day by day. After completing her studies in modern languages as well as commercial studies, she worked for several years as a secretary in various commercial fields. During this time, she saved virtually every penny she earned in hopes of fulfilling her dream of becoming a realist painter.

Ms. Apel was able to relocate to Florence Italy, and in October of 1991 she began studying classically inspired drawing and painting techniques at the studio of the realistic painter Silvestro Pistolesi (alumnus of Pietro Annigoni – most known for his famous portrait of Queen Elizabeth of England). During the same period, Ms Apel studied at the "Scuola Libera del Nudo dell'Accademia di Belle Arti."

From 1992 to 1996, she attended the Florence Academy of Art, an atelier dedicated to teaching the traditional techniques and materials employed by the Masters of Realism, from the Renaissance through the late 19th century. The Florence Academy of Art was founded in 1991 by Daniel Graves, protégé of American realist Richard Frederick Lack of the "Boston School" via Paxton and R. Ives Gammell. The philosophy of The Florence Academy of Art demands a return to discipline in art, to timeless classical canons of beauty, and to the study of nature as the foundation for great and enduring art. The Academy provides students with the opportunity to explore distinctive aspects of their chosen subject through the development of considerable powers of draftsmanship, direct study of works of the Old Masters, and a deep and practical understanding of the materials and methods of the artist.

Jacqueline served as assistant instructor at the FAA from 1997 to 1999 and was awarded the FAA's Certificate of Proficiency in Drawing and Painting. Jacqueline Apel currently lives in Geneva Switzerland, where she paints and works as an illustrator, and takes private commissions.

Jacqueline Apel's paintings are in public and private collections in America (California, Connecticut,  Massachussets, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont and Washington), as well as France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Two of Jacqueline paintings have been chosen to appear in the current MGM film production, "What's the worst that could happen?" . The Film stars Danny DeVito, whose character, a multimillionaire, lives in a mansion in Massachusetts. Ms. Apel's paintings are part of the mansion setting.

Jacqueline’s work is currently shown on  Martha’s Vineyard (MA) at the Willoughby Fine Art Gallery, Edgartown.
